From Málaga to the world.

Where it all began · Málaga

I was born in Málaga, one of the most beautiful cities by the sea.

A curious kid who loved to draw and paint, always wondering what lay beyond the horizon.

My roots · Motril

But my roots are in Motril.

I spent most of my childhood on my grandparents’ farm, helping with the custard apples and the animals.

Curiosity made me want to know how everything worked.

So I studied Computer Science in Málaga, to turn ideas into code and real apps.

My first real project: an app for Málaga’s firefighters.

A real problem became a working tool, and I wanted to see what else was out there.

Out into the world · Prague

In my final year, I went on Erasmus to Prague.

That experience showed me I wanted an international life.

So I started an Erasmus Mundus Master in Big Data.

First stop, Brussels: people from everywhere, and my first steps in big data.

Then Barcelona: real data architecture.

We brainstormed startup ideas and learned to model them into code that works.

Finally Berlin: NLP models, graphs and a thesis on knowledge graphs.

A turning point. Transformers had arrived, and I wanted to bring language, graphs and AI together.

That led me to an industrial PhD in Rome, on semantic parsing.

Using transformer encoder-decoders to turn sentences into graphs we can interpret.

Teaching · Rome

Then a postdoc at Sapienza University of Rome.

A year to build more, and to guide new researchers.

Real-world impact · Washington

Next, the World Bank in Washington, as a Short-Term Consultant.

There, we turned everything I knew about NLP into solutions to real-world problems.

And that is how I got here: today I lead the ImpactAI team.
